Game off: Bristol Rovers' fixture chaos worsens as Swindon Town clash is postponed

Bristol Rovers' game against relegation rivals Swindon Town on Saturday has been called off due to a frozen pitch.

The Mem surface has been under covers since Tuesday's defeat to Oxford United, but the best efforts of ground staff to beat the freezing temperatures have been in vain.

Rovers may be in a poor run of form, with Paul Tisdale sacked on Wednesday, but they doubtless would have wanted the game to go ahead as planned given the chaotic schedule they are already playing through.

COVID-19 postponements amid an already congested calendar have left Rovers with no free Tuesdays until March 23 at the earliest.

And with the Gas locked in a relegation battle, points on the board are much more valuable than games in hand.

"Following a pitch inspection from matchday officials, the surface at the Mem was deemed unsafe due to recent cold conditions, contributing towards a frozen surface," a Rovers spokesman.

"Ground staff have worked relentlessly over recent weeks, covering the pitch to give the game the best chance possible to be played, but with temperatures remaining low, the decision was made today for the game to be postponed.

"A new date for the fixture will be set in due course.

"iFollow match passes purchased for today's game will be valid for the re-arranged meeting between the two sides."
