The National’s frontman Matt Berninger has said that he’s “f***ing p****d” that he and his bandmates were not given a cameo in Game of Thrones.

Berninger revealed that the band was on set during the filming of some of the series. He said: “The National’s been to the top of the Wall. We were in Belfast. We’ve been to Castle Black.”

Berninger told Stereogum: “We couldn’t post anything but there’s all these great pictures of us at the top of the Wall at Castle Black.”

The indie rock band has recorded songs for the hit HBO series. In 2013, they released a version of the classic Game of Thrones song “The Rains of Castamere” and also wrote “Turn On Me” for an album featuring music inspired by the show.

When asked about the cameos made by a number of other musicians – including Ed Sheeran, Sigur Ros and members of Coldplay – the singer replied: “You’re right. I’m p****d. I’m f***ing p****d. I’m p****d I never got to be in it.

Ed Sheeran is one of multiple non-actor celebrities to make an appearance in ‘Game of Thrones’ (HBO)

“I mean, we were literally there and we all have beards and s***”.

The musician also revealed that his National bandmate, Bryce Dessner, has a personal connection to the hugely successful series.

“Alec Bemis, who was Bryce [Dessner, National guitarist]’s friend in school, is also really close friends with Dan Weiss, who was one of the creators of Game Of Thrones,” he said. “Dan Weiss has been a huge fan of the National, I think, from literally the first record.”

Berninger’s debut solo album Serpentine Prison is scheduled for release later this month.
