Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams reveals she wants to 'take a break from work' after leaving Arya Stark behind

Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams has revealed she is ready to take a break from acting after eight years of playing Arya Stark, dying her hair pink to stop any offers.

The 21-year-old was thrust into the spotlight as a teenager as one of the Stark sisters in the HBO hit, alongside Sophie Turner as Sansa.

And now, as the fantasy show prepares to air its final season, Williams has confessed that it’s time to take a break from the acting industry and say that she “subconsciously” came up with a great idea to prevent future work – a bold hairstyle.

“I guess, subconsciously, I dyed it because I didn’t want to work,” Williams told Rolling Stone. “It’s a pretty good way of stopping that. And it just feels so good, so me.

She added: “I’ve battled my whole adolescence with trying to put a stamp on my appearance, but also be a blank canvas as an actor.”

Williams also hinted that she’s looking forward to embracing the “freedom” that will come with no longer appearing in Game of Thrones.

“What’s hit me the most about the show ending isn’t the show ending,” Williams said. “It’s like, I’m free. I can do anything now.”

While Williams may aspire to take a break from work now she’s closed the door on Arya, her co-star Kit Harington recently revealed that he wants to jump right in to something else with a “lighter” character.

“I have played possibly the unfunniest character ever to have graced television,” Harington, who has played Jon Snow since the beginning in 2011, told Emmy magazine.

“I love comedy. But Jon Snow is not a joke person. In some ways comedy works even better if you’re the overly serious guy in a ridiculous comedy, then it can be even funnier.”

Game Of Thrones will return for a final series on April 15, simulcasting with the US at 2am. Episodes will be repeated at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
