Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie has revealed that she “went to pieces” after filming the finale, crying for hours.

Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth in the concluding HBO show, confessed that the enormity of wrapping on the popular show didn’t hit her until it got to the farewell “speeches” later that evening.

“I have been telling myself for years that it will end and that I have to be prepared to let go,” Christie told stand-in Graham Norton Show host Jack Whitehall.

“When it came to the final episode, I got through it and I felt fine all day. But, when it came to the speeches, I finally went to pieces and couldn’t stop crying for two hours.”

Christie added that people got “bored” with her tearful display but said she at least “got it out of her system”.

She also remained tight-lipped on what happens in this weekend’s episode, which is the last ever of the long-running programme.

The actress was chatting to comedian Whitehall, who became the first ever stand-in host on the popular chat show while Norton is in Tel Aviv for Eurovision.

Game of Thrones has faced a backlash from fans in recent days after they expressed their discontent at the fifth episode which aired last week, during which King’s Landing was razed to the ground.

Unhappy viewers created a petition to “remake” the final series with “competent writers” so that it “makes sense”.

The Change.org appeal reads: “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.

“This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

At the time of writing, the petition has over 700,000 signatures.

Also on the sofa with Christie were actor Luke Evans, comedian David Walliams, footballer Peter Crouch and singer Sam Fender.

The Graham Norton Show airs tonight at 10.35pm on BBC One. Game of Thrones concludes Monday at 2am and 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
