Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke reveals she cried while filming her final scenes

Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has revealed that she was in tears as she filmed her final scenes of the hit show.

Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO drama, said there were “loads of tears” as the curtain came down on filming for the final series.

“That was the moment I realised that alcohol can also be a depressant,” Clarke said.

“I was kind of nursing a glass of wine going, ‘I don’t know why I’m not getting any happier from this!”’

The actress also confessed she “walked around London aimlessly” for several hours after being handed the script for the eighth and final season.

Plot details for the final six episodes are being kept tightly under wraps ahead of next month’s premiere, but Clarke has previously teased “shocking” scenes.

“It's going to be huge, that much everyone needs to know,” she told E! on the Oscars red carpet in February.

“It took us a long time to film this one for a very good reason. But I think there's going to be some things... I know there's going to be some things in this last season that will shock people.”

Game of Thrones: Trailer for final series released

Two years after the last series aired, Game of Thrones is set to come to an end in a matter of weeks.

Last week, a two-minute trailer was released as the final countdown to April’s air date begins.

In the trailer, Kit Harington’s Jon Snow talks about the “enemy not tiring” while Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner, prepares herself for battle.

Game Of Thrones will return for a final series on April 15, simulcasting with the US at 2am. Episodes will be repeated at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
