Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke responds after co-star blames her for coffee cup blunder

Emilia Clarke has responded after her Game of Thrones co-star blamed her for the stray coffee cup that found its way into the latest episode.

The HBO show's latest outing, titled “The Last of the Starks”, featured a misplaced coffee cup in a scene involving Clarke's character Daenerys Targaryen. The gaffe spawned masses of memes on social media and even prompted one of the show's art directors to jump to the series' defence.

Liam Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos Seaworth, appeared on Conan and jokingly accused Clarke of being responsible for the error.

“These things happen, it’s a big job, people run in, and Emilia [Clarke] probably drinks too much coffee," he said

In response to Cunningham, Clarke quipped to Los Angeles Times: “What a bastard! I don’t even drink Starbucks. I have no idea whose it was. Liam’s a cheeky one.“

She added: “The funny thing is in Belfast, there is no craft coffee selling Starbucks. Unless we’ve got the Americans in, some hotshot producer, and then we’ll have Starbucks lying around.”

The latest episode featured a scene involving Brienne of Tarth that has prompted fans to accuse the episode’s writers – showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss – of “hitting new lows” while others criticised the decision to kill of Missandei for the repercussions it'll have for the character of Daenerys.

The show will be available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
