Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is firmly leaving her ‘Mother of Dragons’ persona in the past in the trailer for her latest movie, festive rom-com Last Christmas.
The three-minute trailer for the movie shows Clarke playing a Bridget Jones-type character who is unlucky in life and love and finds who self working as a department store Christmas elf.
The movie is set to the backdrop of a killer George Michael/Wham! soundtrack, including an unreleased song from the late singer.
The movie is directed by Paul Feig of Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters fame, and sees Clarke starring opposite love interest, Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding.
Talking to the BBC, Feig clarified the movie is ‘not a musical’ saying: “George's music affects the story. There are a couple of sections where the actors are actually interacting with the music and other sections where George's music is driving, or underscoring the story. So it's a nice mix of being neither a jukebox movie nor straight up musical."
The script for the movie was a collaboration between Bryony Kimmings and Emma Thompson - with Thompson also popping up in the cast playing Clarke’s mother.
Kimmings, has previously said the film is ‘based on the song, Last Christmas, by George Michael'. The singer tragically died in December 2016 but not before he came up with the idea for the project along with Thompson, and her husband Greg Wise.
Kimmings said: “When I came on board, George was up for it, he’d already signed something to say yes, but he’d passed away, and Greg and Emma were still very keen to write it.”
The cast also features Ingrid Oliver, Sue Perkins, Patti LuPone and Michelle Yeoh.
The movie is due to hit cinemas on November 15.
