Game of Thrones: Sophie Turner discusses Sansa Stark's fate

**Spoilers for Game of Thrones season eight, episode six “The Iron Throne” ahead**

That’s that. Game of Thrones has come to an end. Our watch has ended.

The finale has drawn mixed reactions from fans, with some people disappointed that Bran was crowned King of the Six Kingdoms. Many wanted Sansa Stark to take the Iron Throne (or, at least, what remains of it). However, the gracious Stark allowed her brother to take over, and instead established the North as an independent state.

Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa on the show, has reacted to the finale and explained why the character did not want to rule Westeros.

“I wasn’t bummed at all,” Turner told EW after the episode aired. “Because ever since the end of season one, Sansa has not been about the capital or being queen.

“She doesn’t believe she could rule and doesn’t want to. She knows her place is in the North and she can rule the people of the North and rule Winterfell.

“She’d probably be capable [of being Queen of the Seven Kingdoms] with the help of her family and advisors like Tyrion. But she has no desire to be ruler of all of the Seven Kingdoms.”

The Independent’s critic called the finale “misjudged and hammy”, and criticised the episode for “lacking emotional resolution”. Emilia Clarke, whose character Daenerys finally perished during the episode, has said “it was a f***ing struggle reading the scripts” but that the character’s final moments were “very taken care of… it’s a very beautiful and touching ending”.
