Game of Thrones creators explain what Drogon did with Daenerys' body

The final season of Game of Thrones was controversial for a number of reasons.

The hit fantasy series based on the novels A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin ended with Jon Snow ( Kit Harington ) murder his beloved Queen Daenerys Targaryen ( Emilia Clarke ) after she burned King's Landing to the ground and revealed plans for further destruction as part of her vision of world domination.

It was a divisive move, which then saw her dragon Drogon arrive, burn the Iron Throne until it melted and then fly away with her body in his claws over the sea towards the Free City of Volantis.

But what did he do with her? More importantly, what didn't he do to her?

Some, including Clarke herself, speculated that he ate his "mother" but this does not seem to be the case.

The DVD and Blu-ray release of the final season includes a making-of documentary for the final episode that sees one of the Game of Thrones showrunners confirm to actress Emilia Clarke that Daenerys' body was not eaten by Drogon.

According to Entertainment Weekly , David Benioff revealed to Clarke: "Drogon's not going to eat you."

He added: "He's not a cat. Did you see how gently he was nudging you?"

Well, we can be thankful for that at least!

Additionally, Kit Harington revealed that Jon didn't plan on killing Daenerys when he entered the throne room.

Harington reveals: "He doesn't know he’s going to betray her until right at the end.

"In Jon’s head, it’s a number of [reasons: Dany] doesn't factor in anyone else’s decisions and it also means [Dany] is going to kill my sisters, so it becomes [my] family vs. her."

There are tough calls in Westeros!

Game of Thrones seasons 1 to 8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray from December 2, 2019.
