Game of Thrones' shock season 8 twist predicted in The Simpsons parody episode

The shocking destruction of King’s Landing in the fifth episode of Game of Thrones’ final season was predicted in a special episode of The Simpsons.

The most recent instalment of the fantasy drama saw Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her dragon burn King’s Landing to the ground after the Lannister forces surrendered to her army, killing thousands of innocent civilians.

The disturbing plot twist appeared to confirm fan theories that Daenerys would become the Mad Queen in her bid to sit on the Iron Throne and rule the Seven Kingdoms.

The Simpsons writers appeared to anticipate this shock turn of events in a parody episode which aired in 2017.

Titled The Serfsons, its concluding scene saw the famous yellow family standing on some castle walls to watch an angry dragon burn down their village.

After Game of Thrones’ fifth episode aired on Monday, fans began to share stills from the corresponding Simpsons scene on Twitter, claiming that the long-running cartoon comedy had managed to “predict the future.”

“Writers at The Simpsons got a crystal ball or something?!?!” one fan asked.

“I think the #GameofThrones writers might be fans of The Simpsons,” another suggested. “This was two years ago.”

“All hail House Simpson,” a third wrote, while another Twitter user pointed out that the cartoon’s writers were better at predicting the future than Three-Eyed Raven Bran Stark.

The parody episode poked fun at the incestuous relationship between siblings Cersei and Jaime Lannister, with Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau voicing Marge’s twin brother.

It also featured a scene in which Marge’s mother was transformed into an Ice Walker, a nod to Westeros’ terrifying White Walkers.

Game of Thrones concludes on Monday at 2am and 9pm on Sky Atlantic, and is available to stream on demand on NOW TV
