Game of Thrones season 8: Truth about Jon Snow revealed among awkward reunions

Reunions and revelations dominated the return of Game of Thrones for its final season - and Jon Snow has finally found out the truth about his parentage.

With the prospect of the Night King bringing his army of Whitewalkers through The Wall, Jon has been making an alliance with dragon queen Daenerys Targaryen, both logistically and carnally.

His return to Winterfell with 'his queen' brought a number of reunions and a possibly unhealthy dash of suspicion.

Games of Thrones has seen a number of people 'left for dead' and Winterfell was the place where they 'found each other' again.

Jon and Arya Stark was the one viewers have been waiting for and their loving hug was a rare moment of warmth in the freezing north.

Arya and The Hound was a little more gruff, though with a hint of admiration for Arya's ability to survive.

It is Jon's reunion with Samwell Tarley in the crypts of Winterfell that brought the biggest revelation of season eight, though this was for Jon rather than the viewers, who have been patiently waiting for this moment.

So many emotions for Jon, as he finds out that not only is he not Ned Stark's bastard son, he is actually the son of Aegon Targaryen and the true heir to the Iron Throne.

It made for an awkward moment, when he found out that not only did his father and brother, Randyll and Dickon Tarly, refuse to bow down to Daenerys, she then executed them with dragon fire, making the Tarlys not one of her favourite families.

Talking of favourites, it is fair to say that Sansa Stark, lady of Winterfell, is not over enamoured with the arrival of Daenerys and made her welcome as frosty as the surrounds.

With Jaime Lannister joining the party late on, to be greeted by Bran, who he looked to dispatch many series ago, the 'friends reunited' episode is complete.

The question now is, how will Jon Snow move forward with his new knowledge and how will Daenerys feel about his claim on the Iron Throne and, of course, that her new lover is her nephew.

As with all Game of Thrones episodes, we are left with many more questions than answers.
