Game of Thrones season 8: Peter Dinklage teases 'game-changing' climactic battle sequence

Game of Thrones is known for its big battles, however, it seems fans have seen nothing yet.

Peter Dinklage has teased what is being described as the HBO series’ biggest ever battle sequence that was completed after two and a half month’s worth of night shoots in Toome, the location used for Winterfell.

The actor, who plays Tyrion Lannister, described the shoot as “brutal,” telling Entertainment Weekly: “It makes the Battle of the Bastards look like a theme park.“

This battle is widely expected to be the one to cap the show’s eighth and final season which will see the Night King descend upon Westeros.

Excitingly, Miguel Sapochnik is the director behind the battle which, according to crew members, took 55 consecutive nights of filming to complete.

“Part of our challenge, and really, Miguel’s challenge, is how to keep that compelling,“ co-showrunner David Benioff said. "We’ve been building toward this since the very beginning, it’s the living against the dead, and you can’t do that in a 12-minute sequence.“

Co-executive producer Bryan Cogman added: “It’s about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death."

In other Thrones-related news, the first image from the final season has been released, featuring Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow.

Casting has begun on the first of HBO’s planned prequels with Naomi Watts and Poldark star Josh Whitehouse set to appear.

Game of Thrones is expected to return to HBO in April.
