Game of Thrones season 8: George RR Martin discusses how the book ending will differ

George RR Martin has discussed how the ending to the A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series on which Game of Thrones is based, will differ to the television show.

Speaking to Rolling Stone for the publication's cover story on Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), the author remained vague.

“I’ve been so slow with these books,” Martin said. “The major points of the ending will be things I told them five or six years ago.

"But there may also be changes, and there’ll be a lot added."

Martin's words hint that the ending of the final book in the series, A Dream of Spring, will be similar to the television show.

However, there have already been many discrepancies between the show and books already, and these are likely to continue.

Williams recently revealed that her character, Arya, and Turner's Sansa will be teaming up during the final season of Game of Thrones, as hinted at during the season seven finale.

Reports have also emerged that a description of the first episode has leaked online, with fans reacting furiously at potentially having episodes spoilt.

The final season of Game of Thrones reaches TV screens 14 April. The show will be available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
