Game of Thrones season 8 first teaser revealed by HBO

Game of Thrones fans have been treated to their first (very, very brief) look at the forthcoming final season.

HBO released a teaser comprised of sneak peeks at its new and returning shows for 2019 including the likes of True Detective and Flight of the Conchords.

It was Thrones that whipped up the biggest frenzy, however, with one moment showing Jon Snow (Kit Harington) embracing his sister, Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) back where it all began at Winterfell. It seems that's all fans are getting until the launch of a full-length trailer.

Other shows to feature in the trailer include new seasons of The Deuce, Barry and Big Little Lies which sees Meryl Streep join the all-star ensemble alongside Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. She'll play the mother of Perry, the character played by Alexander Skarsgård in season one.

Also included is new comedy series Camping from Nighty Night's Julia Davis which will unite Jennifer Garner and David Tennant.

Game of Thrones will return for its eighth and final season in 2019. HBO is already prepping prequel spin-offs for what has undoubtedly been its most successful TV show of all time.

The ending of Thrones will usher in a new era for the cable network. New shows set to premiere over the coming year include Jordan Peele-J.J. Abrams horror drama Lovecraft Country, Kathryn Hahn comedy Mrs Fletcher and a "remix" of Watchmen from Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof whose acclaimed drama The Leftovers concluded on the channel in 2017.
