Game of Thrones season 8: First official photo from set released, sees Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow embrace

Amongst all the casting announcements regarding the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off The Long Night, the first official photo from the set of the upcoming final season has been released.

Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) can been seen embracing in a snow-covered location, which we presume to be Winterfell. Season seven concluded with the pair having sex while on their way to the Northern capital, where they will likely learn from Samwell Tarly that they are related.

The photo adorns the front page of Entertainment Weekly – see the image below.

Game of Thrones will conclude with its eighth season, the release date for which has not been announced (although fans expect new episodes to be released in April).

Speaking about the upcoming episodes, co-executive producer Bryan Cogman said: “It’s about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death.

“It’s an incredibly emotional haunting bittersweet final season and I think it honours very much what [author George RR Martin] set out to do — which is flipping this kind of story on its head.”

Sean Bean – who played Ned Stark in the first season – has also revealed that a special episode, presented by Conan O’Brien, will be released by HBO.
