Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has teased fans with new hints about the show’s upcoming final season ahead of its premiere in April.
Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the hit HBO drama, told TV Insider that the truth about Jon Snow (Kit Harington)’s parentage, which was revealed towards the end of the seventh season, will “cut deep” for her character – and will have a major impact on episodes to come.
“Daenerys’ lifelong dream has been to avenge her family and claim her rightful seat on the Iron Throne,” she said. “She truly loves Jon. Were she to find out about his title, it would cut deep.”
At the end of the show’s seventh season, it was finally revealed that Daenerys and Jon are related, while the latter character was also confirmed as the last surviving member of the Targaryen family, making him the true heir to the Iron Throne.
Discussing this major revelation, Harington reiterated his co-star’s view, adding: “Jon is someone who plays by the book. He cannot lie. Finding out about Dany would be very hard for him.”
“From a dramatic standpoint, it makes things interesting,” DB Weiss, the HBO series’ showrunner, continued.
“Because the story is no longer about who Jon’s parents are. It’s about what happens when Jon finds out.”
The final season of Game of Thrones is set to premiere in April, though an exact release date is yet to be confirmed. It will air on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK and on HBO in the US.
