Game of Thrones season 8: Cersei star Lena Headey praises Arya after episode 3 Night King moment

Cersei Lannister star Lena Headey has praised Arya Stark over her actions in the latest Game of Thrones episode – and fans are pointing out the irony.

Following the broadcast of the HBO show’s latest episode, titled “The Long Night”, the British actor – who has been absent for the past two instalments – expressed her happiness at Maisie Williams’ character being the one to save the day.

On Instagram, Headey posted a photo of Arya, with the caption: “That’s my girl.” She even included the hashtagged phrase: “Arya Stark ain’t f***ing about.”

Fans, who highlighted how lovely it is to see actors praise co-stars for their big moments, are also pointing out the irony: with the Night King defeat to her name, Arya will now set her sights on Cersei Lannister, perhaps the only surviving person on her kill list that she has any interest in murdering.

Coupled with the fact that Melisandre's prophecy - that Arya will kill people with brown, blue and green eyes - it seems Arya is a likely contender to rid Westeros of its remaining fearsome character. After all, Cersei does have green eyes.

"You're next," several users wrote under Headey's post.

Headey isn’t the only cast member to express their excitement over Arya’s big moment. Turner, who plays her on-screen sister Sansa Stark, sent Williams an excited voice message that you can listen to here

Williams, who revealed she thought fans wouldn’t like the fact Arya would be the one to save the day, said that she came around to the idea after being reminded of her conversation with Melisandre in season three – a moment that predicted Arya would be the one to kill the Night King all the way back in 2014.

The intense trailer for next week’s episode sees everyone turn their attention to the Iron Throne and the fate of Cersei Lannister.

The final season of Game of Thrones continues every Sunday.

The show will be available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
