Game of Thrones fans who queued outside Imax cinemas in the US last night to watch the show become the first TV series screened in the super-sized format also got a sneak peek at series five, which premieres on Sky Atlantic on 12 April.

But non-US fans who can’t get to one of the special screenings at 200 theatres (all in the US) need not despair, the trailer has already leaked onto YouTube (hence the rather shaky camera work and audio) and is generating much excitement and speculation.

The two-minute trailer shows Arya in Braavos, Jon Snow on the offensive somewhere cold, and a bearded Tyrion in tropical Pentos. The one big plot hint it provides is that Varys may want Tyrion to help Daenerys take the Iron Throne.

“I’m not going to stop the wheel – I’m going to break the wheel,” says a determined Daenerys, portentously.

The Imax screenings, which opened on 200 screens in the US on Thursday night for a week, consist of the last two episodes of season four (“The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children”). Since the show was not originally shot in Imax, the episodes were digitally remastered for the format, and given an R-rating in order to be able to be shown in cinemas.

Well, with all that nudity and gore, it was never going to get a PG was it?
