Game of Thrones’ Night King actor explains why THAT scene with Arya Stark was ‘very difficult’

Game of Thrones’ Night King actor Vladimír Furdík has said it was “very difficult” filming his dramatic death scene with Maisie Williams.

Over the weekend fans of the HBO hit drama witnessed Williams’ character Arya Stark take centre stage as she slayed the Night King with a Valyrian steel dagger, during the Battle of Winterfell.

Furdík opened up on the “emotional” process of preparing to be killed by Williams’ character, and said being “very good friends” made the process of pretending to hurt her even more daunting.

He told the Hollywood Reporter: “When I have to hold her under the jaw and it looks like she dies, we had to spend a lot of energy on that particular scene, it was very, very difficult.

“We are very good friends. We know each other. It wasn't easy for me to [pretend to] hurt her.

“When I grabbed her under the jaw, it wasn't easy [on a practical level]. If you make a bad move if you don't grab her well she could have an injury. So I was under pressure and she was under pressure. It was not an easy day.”

The comments come after fans conjured up a new theory that Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) is in some way linked to the Night King.

In the latest instalment of the show Bran lured the Night King away from the main battle, using his powers to travel through time, which some have speculated is when the pair could have struck a deal.

The scene left fans convinced that the Night King went down too easily and isn’t really dead, with some claiming Bran developed a deal as a way of preventing future bloodshed. However others have insisted that Bran may actually be the Night King himself.

HBO released a first look at episode four, which delves into Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) mission to secure the Iron Throne and her willingness to remove Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) in order to do so.

Game of Thrones is on Sky Atlantic Mondays at 2am and 9pm. It is also available on NOW TV.
