Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey says cast are ‘ready’ for the show to end

Game of Thrones star Lena Headey has revealed that the cast of the HBO hit are “ready” for the show to end after eight seasons.

Headey, who has played Cersei Lannister since the show made its debut in 2011, suggested that she and her colleagues are looking forward to taking on “new stuff” after dedicating so much time to their Westeros alter egos.

“It’s the end. It’s the eighth season, which is bonkers,” she told Good Morning America.

The actress told hosts that she was “chuffed” with her work on the show to date, and briefly paused to jokingly “translate” the British colloquialism for American viewers.

Chuffed: Headey said she was

“I feel totally chuffed – do I need to translate that? It just means really happy – to have been part of something like that for so long and I think everyone is ready to do new stuff,” she said.

“But I think until it’s over, over, I won’t know how I really feel.”

The 45-year-old star previously admitted that her final day of filming was “weirdly tedious,” as it involved her repeatedly walking up and down some stairs.

Two minutes with Kit Harington

“My last day on set was really weirdly tedious because I just had to shoot going up and down these stairs and that was it,” she told Variety last month.

When pressed for more details of the scene, she suggested that she’d been sworn to secrecy by producers, explaining: “I can’t tell you anything, they’d kill me.”

HBO released a handful of teaser images from Game of Thrones’ eighth season last week, including one shot showing Headey’s character decked out in full armour, with the Iron Throne looming in the background.

Other pictures showed fan favourites Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) in the North, suggesting that the action will pick up where we left off almost two years ago.

Game of Thrones season eight will air in the UK on April 15 on Sky Atlantic
