Game of Thrones: HBO reportedly releases casting call for Daemon Targaryen

HBO has reportedly released a casting call for one of the lead roles in the Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon.

Rumours regarding the series have been circulating since the network reportedly began casting the prequel in July, with fans speculating that casting for two key roles, Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, was underway.

The network has reportedly now released its first official casting call, according to The Illuminerdi. HBO is reportedly also looking to cast the role of Prince Daemon Targaryen, another key part in House of the Dragon.

The character description says the Prince is a 40 to 50-year-old male and the younger brother to King Viserys. It briefly describes his personality: “Daemon wasn’t born with ‘naked ambition’ for the throne despite being in line for it.”

The short description goes on to describe the character as “easily bored” but specifies his one “singular obsession with earning the love and acceptance of his brother, the king”. It also paints Daemon as “the most experienced warrior of his time” who “vacillates between vile and heroic”.

The casting call also includes a time-frame stating, “This role is currently scheduled to film between January – December 2021.”

Its authenticity, however, has been called into question by some, with a few fans pointing out that Game of Thrones is in the habit of using pseudonyms when casting. The Independent has approached HBO for comment.

In October, HBO revealed that fans could expect House of the Dragon to be a 10-episode “straight-to-series order” centred around the Targaryen family. It is co-created by Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condol.

The prequel will be based on George RR Martin’s Fire & Blood books, which are set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

House of the Dragon is one of four Game of Thronesspin-offs in the works at HBO.
