Game of Thrones trailer: Season 8 release date FINALLY announced… and it’s sooner than you think

A release date for the eighth and final series of Game of Thrones has been announced.

HBO revealed the show will return to screens in April next year.

A teaser for the upcoming instalment has also been released, showcasing crucial moments from the show, alongside the gripping tag-line: “For The Throne.”

A post on the show's official Twitter account read: “Every battle. Every betrayal. Every risk. Every fight. Every sacrifice. Every death. All #ForTheThrone.”

The announcement was bittersweet for fans who were thankful for a start date - but unhappy with the lack of a trailer.

One user wrote: “Jon is not the only one ready.”

Another commented: “False alarm... Not a trailer smh (sic).”

A third added: “Omg, I'm gonna cry of happiness.”

The concluding six episodes will see an end to the popular show, which first hit screens in 2011 to record success.

HBO programming president Casey Bloys previously confirmed that the prequel fans are waiting for isn’t actually going into production in October, as previously reported.

He told Entertainment Weekly: “I don’t know where that report came from, we’re hoping to go into production in early ’19.”

The final season of the drama, which airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK, is being kept under wraps with fans desperate to know what’s going to happen.

Emilia Clarke, plays Daenerys Targaryen, has hinted at her final scenes in the long-running show.

She told Vanity Fair: “It f***** me up. Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is . ..”

The series will air in the UK on Sky Atlantic when the series returns to TV screen in 2019.
