Game of Thrones finale: "Actual" ending for Jon Snow revealed by Kit Harington

It's hard being King of the North, until you're not King anymore.

The final season of HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones saw fan-favourite Jon Snow ( Kit Harington ) forced to kill his beloved aunt/lover Daenerys Targaryen ( Emilia Clarke ) after she brutally obliterated most of King's Landing, with further maniacal plans for world domination.

After this, the finale episode The Iron Throne saw Jon Snow exiled to the Wall by his brother and new king Bran Stark to keep the surviving armies of Daenerys at bay.

However, the final scene showed Jon set off beyond the Wall with the Wildlings and seemingly for the last time.

Now Kit Harington has revealed to Entertainment Weekly what we should really take away from the ending for Jon Snow.

Harington said: "Seeing him go beyond the Wall back to something true, something honest, something pure with these people he was always told he belongs with — the Free Folk — it felt to me like he was finally free."

The actor added: "Instead of being chained and sent to the Wall, it felt like he was set free. It was a really sweet ending. As much as he had done a horrible thing [in killing Daenerys], as much as he had felt that pain, the actual ending for him was finally being released."

This might feel especially appropriate as Jon's other lost love was the wildling Ygritte, who was played by Harington's now-wife, Rose Leslie.

The fantasy drama series is currently the favourite to pick up the gong for Outstanding Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards later this year.
