Game of Thrones fans freak out as Sophie Turner appears to reveal a massive spoiler

Game of Thrones fans are freaking out that Sophie Turner has inadvertently let slip that her character may not survive the end of the show.

The actress, who plays Sansa Stark, uploaded a photo onto Instagram that seemed to suggest that her character dies.

The behind the scenes snap was taken during filming for the eighth season of the show, based on the Song of Ice and Fire books by George RR Martin.

Sophie, 23, can be seen looking pretty lifeless - she’s lying down with her eyes closed and mouth open a little - and fans are in turmoil that this signifies the end of Sansa.

Sophie shared a photo of herself on set (Instagram)

One replied with the message: "You definitely look dead here but okay"

A second said: “Is this a spoiler???”

A third posted (shouted): “DOES THIS MEAN THAT SANSA IS GONNA DIE.”

Another added: “Girl if this is a pic of you dead on set I’m blocking you! Don’t play with me.”

According to Sophie, there’s a more innocent meaning to the pic - either that or she wanted to wind her fans up.

She was simply catching some Z’s in between filming.

She captioned the snap: "In honour of the final season of Thrones premiering tonight .... Here’s a picture of me asleep on set."

Viewers watched on Monday’s season opener as Lady of the North Sansa frostily welcomed Daenerys Targaryen and her army to Winterfell.

The scene saw the Stark family, including Arya, Bran and Jon Snow, together for the first time since season one.

The armies are joining together to fight the Night King and his army of the dead, which have broken through the Wall.

Game of Thrones airs Monday at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
