Game of Thrones fans complaining about dark scenes 'don't have TVs tuned right'

Struggling to make out what’s going on in Game of Thrones because so many scenes are pitch-black?

You’re tuning your telly wrong, according to the show’s cinematographer.

Oh, and you need to make sure all lights are off and buy some blackout blinds. Then you’ll be able to see it.

This week’s Battle of Winterfell episode was so dingy, viewers posted more than 60,000 Tweets complaining.

Comedian Matt Lucas even scoffed: “I think Bran saw more than I did.”

Cinematographer Fabian Wagner said: “A lot of the problem is that a lot of people don’t know how to tune their TVs properly.

“The showrunners decided that this had to be a dark episode.”

Speaking to Wired, he explained that the dingy setting is atmospheric and “impactful”, adding: “Another look would have been wrong. Everything we wanted people to see is there.

“Personally, I don’t have to always see what’s going on because it’s more about the emotional impact.

“Game of Thrones is a cinematic show and, therefore, you have to watch it like you’re at the cinema – in a
darkened room.

“If you watch a night scene in a brightly lit room, then that won’t help you see the image properly.”

So, just rearrange your living room, adjust all the settings on your TV and sit in the dark and you might just be able to make out what’s going on in next week’s episode.
