Game of Thrones creators to release season 8 trailer they don't want you to see

The showrunners of Game of Thrones have revealed there’ll be a bigger trailer released before season eight begins, but they don’t really want fans to watch it.

David Benioff and DB Weiss announced that the trailer will debut first look footage from the next season, despite not wanting to give anything away about the final batch of episodes ahead of the premiere.

“I wish there were no trailers,” Weiss told Entertainment Weekly. “I just want somebody to say, ‘Trust me, go see this.’”

Benioff added: “[David Lynch] was saying he wished there were no trailers, and it’s true.”

The pair made the statements after being asked whether they were going to hold back all footage before the final season begins in April, and revealed they were inspired to put a trailer together because of fellow HBO series Westworld.

“We went and saw Ready Player One with our kids and they played the Westworld trailer and it looked great. And we were like, ‘Ah, we should do that.’”

Earlier this week, HBO released a brief trailer, which confirmed the eighth and final season’s release date, and featured several hints of what’s to come – without showing any new footage.

It shows Jon Snow (Kit Harington) walking through the crypts of Winterfell alongside Stark sisters, Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Arya (Maisie Williams).

Game of Thrones season 8 begins in the US on 14 April and will air in the UK the following evening on Sky Atlantic.
