Game of Thrones' Brienne models for Vivienne Westwood – Stylewatch

We’ve spoken about Game of Thrones’ creeping fashion influence beforea couple of times, in fact – but this sets it in stone: Gwendoline Christie – aka Brienne of Tarth – is the face of Vivienne Westwood.

“Trousers for women, yes! Dresses for men, the same dresses that women wear? Do that!” says Westwood of the collection Christie is modelling, which is unisex-themed. The idea, she adds, is that “you, the woman, look like a king or queen (from history or a parallel universe) – you the man look like a king or a queen!” Which sounds incredibly Westeros.

Christie, who also appears in the next Star Wars movie, says: “I love the ‘unisex’ theme of this collection. It is so relevant for Vivienne Westwood to reassert their activist mindset and create a collection that takes us beyond our current gender stereotypes with beauty and intelligence.”

All very now – and it is good to see a heavily tattoed male model Leebo Freeman in a silk, Chinoiserie dress – but perhaps the very best thing about this campaign is the backdrop: dozens and dozens of perspex dress bags, as if they’ve just had a bunk up in a Westwood storeroom.
