Game of Thrones petition: Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner hits out at 'disrespectful' remake requests

Sophie Turner has hit back at the “disrespectful” petition to have Game of Thrones season eight remade.

The actress, who rose to fame as Sansa Stark, criticised the negativity surrounding the final series of the HBO show, explaining that she thinks there has been so much backlash from fans because “it didn’t go their way”.

“All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season,” Turner told the New York Times.

“So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”

Turner added: “Daenerys becoming something of the Mad Queen — it shouldn’t be such a negative thing for fans. It’s a shock for sure, but I think it’s just because it hasn’t gone their way.”

The star, who recently married Joe Jonas, hailed Sansa’s ending as the Queen of the North because it left her “in the only place she really and truly feels safe”.

“She would be a fair and loving ruler, and it’s what she’s been striving for this whole series: to go back home, to protect her home. And finally she has that,” Turner told the publication.

On Monday, UK fans said goodbye to Sansa and Game of Thrones as the final episode, The Iron Throne, aired in the early hours of the morning and again in a prime-time slot.

The reaction to the last run of episodes as a whole has attracted negative comments from fans, with some even creating a Change.org petition to “rewrite” the series.

The document called upon HBO to “give fans a final season that makes sense” and was started after the penultimate episode and the burning of King’s Landing.

“David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on,” it reads.

“This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

At the time of writing, over 1.3 million disgruntled fans have signed online.

Game of Thrones is available to catch up now on Sky Go and NOW TV.
