Saturday's recap: White Sox 4, Rangers 3 (11 innings)

April 24--White Sox 4, Rangers 3 (11 innings)

After scoring twice to take the lead, the White Sox made the final two outs of the eighth inning at home plate during a 4-3 victory. The Rangers responded with the tying run in the top of the ninth, opening the door for Jose Abreu's single to left field through a five-player infield in the 11th inning.

At the plate

Melky Cabrera had three hits, including a solo home run, and reached base four times. The woes continued for Avisail Garcia, who is 1 for his last 23. Abreu has three hits in his last 36 at-bats.

On the mound

Carlos Rodon lasted 6 2/3 innings, giving up two runs, two hits, two walks and striking out seven. The second run charged to him was allowed by Jake Petricka.

In the field

White Sox second baseman Brett Lawrie dove to snag Delino DeShields' grounder up the middle, then flipped the ball behind his back to Jimmy Rollins to force out Rougned Odor at second base in the third inning. Dioner Navarro's throwing error on Delino DeShields' stolen base in the ninth preceded Elvis Andrus' sacrifice fly.

Key number

4-for-59. What Garcia and Abreu are combined in their last 59 at-bats.

The quote

"He's chasing a little bit. He's swinging out of the zone; he knows that. It sounds easier to fix. I think he knows what he's doing." -- White Sox manager Robin Ventura on Abreu.
