GAME announces 40 store closures nationwide as part of "rationalisation programme"

High street favourite GAME has announced it will be closing 40 stores across the UK as part of "rationalisation programme".

Around 13 of its shops have already had noticed served - locations include Mansfield, Canterbury, Watford, Glasgow Fort and Leicester.

And just yesterday another 14 locations joined  - including sites in Derby, Norwich Chapelfield, Lakeside, Bexleyheath and Carmarthen, the Mirror reports.

GAME intends to serve notice on 13 more sites in the near future, the Mirror reports .

A GAME spokesperson said: “We are working closely with landlords throughout the UK to ensure that we do not have to vacate the 40 locations which could lead to a number of job losses.

"However, we are facing a challenging retail market and GAME with its extensive retail footprint, needs to restructure and landlords need to work with us in setting realistic, fair rents.”

Just yesterday, high street staple Debenhams announced it would be closing 19 of its branches in 2020.

Store closure location include Altrincham Greater Manchester, Chatham Kent, Wolverhampton and Southport Merseyside.
