Gama leaves U23 job, may join Kirins

Alexander Gama

Alexandre Gama has quit as coach of the national U23 side, the Football Association of Thailand confirmed on Tuesday.

"He has terminated his contract with the FAT and we won't stand in his way," FAT deputy secretary-general Patit Supapong said.

Gama's team finished runners-up at the Merlion Cup in Singapore at the weekend -- his third second-place result during his seven-month stint as coach of the U23 squad.

"It's a great honour for me to work with the Thai national team. It's a pity that we were not successful," said the Brazilian coach.

Gama, who has coached Buriram United and Chiang Rai United, is expected to be appointed coach of struggling Thai League 1 side SCG Muang Thong United soon.
