Galway will expect to continue strong start as Tyrone visit Tuam

Galway may be moving in a different direction under Padraic Joyce but they continue to be a formidable force in the League.

Joyce’s predecessor Kevin Walsh didn’t earn many plaudits for the brand of football the team played under him, but in securing promotion and the Division Two title in 2017, reaching the Division One final the following year and going very close to contesting another last year, he moulded them into a very consistent outfit.

And having been involved in three one-point games so far, coming out the right side in two of them, they look set to give the competition another good rattle this spring and, indeed, could well be out on their own at the top having blown a winning position against Kerry.

A defeat to Tyrone on the last day in Omagh ultimately cost them their place in the final last year though two years ago, Galway had too much for them on their return to Division One football at Tuam Stadium.

It’s there that they face Mickey Harte’s side again tomorrow, away from the typically blustery Pearse Stadium, and they should enhance their record at their spiritual home.

VERDICT:  Galway
