Galway name team for Connacht Senior Championship meeting with London

All-Star Ian Burke and clubmate Liam Silke have come back into the Galway team for Sunday’s meeting with London.

They are two of eight Corofin players on manager Kevin Walsh’s panel after they completed a second successive All-Ireland club triumph in March, a run which limited their game time with the county team during the spring.

Burke started the opening League game against Cavan in January and hasn’t featured for Galway in a competitive game since. Silke was introduced as a sub both that day and in the subsequent defeat to Kerry, while he started the Connacht League meeting with Mayo at the turn of the year.

It’s something of a new-look Galway side with three full Championship debutants - John Daly, Antaine O Laoi and Padraic Cunningham - while there are just seven surviving starters from last year’s All-Ireland semi-final loss to Dublin.

Centre-back Daly is joined on the team by his brother Micheal at midfield for the Connacht quarter-final, which throws in at 3pm in Ruislip on Sunday.

GALWAY: R Lavelle; E Kerin, SA O Ceallaigh, D Wynne; L Silke, J Daly, G O’Donnell; T Flynn, M Daly; A O Laoi, P Cunningham, J Heaney; I Burke, S Walsh, D Cummins.
