The Galway senior hurlers have met tonight amid unrest over Micheál Donoghue’s departure as manager.
Donoghue surprisingly stepped down earlier this week despite agreeing to a two-year extension as recently as April.
The Tuam Herald has reported that Donoghue’s decision was at least in part influenced by a lack of support from the county board and that his relationship with one officer in particular had become strained.
Whatever course of action the players take remains to be seen but a revolt against the board may be in the offing, with the majority of them believed to be unhappy at the popular Donoghue’s departure.
It’s questionable whether Donoghue, who guided Galway to their first All-Ireland in 29 years in 2017, would be willing to row back on his decision to resign, however.
