Galway football legend Tom Dillon passes away age 93

Galway football legend Tom 'Pook' Dillon has passed away at the age of 93.

The former footballer won the All-Ireland Championship as part of the Tribesmen's 1956 team and was involved in his local club Ahascragh/Fohenagh GAA where at the time of his passing he served as president.

The club posted about his passing on their Twitter page, saying: "Sad to hear of the passing of our Club President, the great Tom "Pook" Dillon RIP.

"[Tom] was corner back on the Galway football team of the 1950s and All Ireland Senior Football Winner with Galway in 1956.

"He was also greatly involved in our club throughout the years. May he R.I.P."

And supporters have come out with tributes to the All-Ireland winner, with user Jack Murray posting on Twitter: "So sorry for you all.

"When I was a very small boy at my Nan’s and Mick’s house in Killupane a visit from ‘Pook’ was such a highlight for me.

"A great laugh, a wonderful smile, a kind man and a great character. # RIP."
