Galway couple praise 'incredible' locals who rebuilt their home just three weeks after it was destroyed in fire

A Galway couple has praised 'incredible' locals who helped rebuild their home after it was destroyed in a fire.

French-born Jeremy and Melanie Zanni were left without a home after their cottage was ravaged by a devastating blaze.

The couple has now praised the support of locals who stepped in and helped them in their time of need.

Jeremy wrote on Facebook: "Good evening, it's now four weeks since the chimney fire that changed our lives in the most positive way ever.

"And I must admit we have been holding back on the news front while the mightiest Meatheal of all was taking shape with the speed of light.

"Meatheal is that sense of community that makes a community stop in their track to help a neighbor in need.

"As you can see from the pictures, it won't be long before our lives goes back to normal, and only the good memories will remain.

"And the beauty of this story is that the rebuild is all done by volunteers. Be it neighbors, builders, building suppliers and so on."

Jeremy also paid a special thanks to Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice for his part in supporting the rebuilding efforts.

He added: "And none of this would have happened without the natural born leader that is our neighbour Michael Fitzmaurice who took on the task while the Cottage was still burning on the 2nd of March.

"What's happening here is a life lesson for the world that if we stick together and help one another there is nothing that can't be achieved."
