Galway community fumes after arson attack on Bohemians Football Club

These were the shocking scenes in Knocknacarra on Saturday night as fire-starting hooligans attacked Galway Bohemians Football Club.

The arson attack that took place at Galway's oldest club, established in 1932, broke out at 9pm with severe damage done to a compound unit where equipment is stored, reports Galway Beo.

Councillor John Connolly told Galway Bay FM that he witnessed the fire and said the incident was very disappointing for the club and its members while also praising the fire services for their quick action.

Galway City Central councillor and former city Mayor Mike Cubbard posted a video of the inferno on his social media which he described as "frustrating".

He said: "As a volunteer coach at Galway Bohemians Football Club, it is soul destroying when you see a mindless arson attack on the area we store our equipment.

"Over 200 kids benefit from the coaching in Miller's Lane, let's hope we have not lost too much in this fire, it's very frustrating."

Galway Beo has contacted Gardai about the incident.
