Galway boss Brian Hanley will fight to free suspended captain Ian McGlynn for minor final

Boss Brian Hanley says Galway will fight to free suspended captain Ian McGlynn for the Electric Ireland All-Ireland minor final.

The centre-back was shown a straight red card following an off the ball incident in the 38th minute.

The dismissal didn’t trouble Galway who led by nine at that stage – and won the game by the same margin.

Sean McDonagh was superb for the back to back champions and helped himself to 0-12 and the man of the match award.

But McGlynn will be needed on August 18 if they’re to beat Kilkenny for the second time this summer.

And it remains to be seen if full-forward Shane Morgan is available after suffering a suspected concussion during a stoppage time melee.

Referee Colm Cunning responded to the fracas with red cards for Wexford duo Kyle Scallan and Cian Molloy.

Hanley said: “If I know Shane Morgan, he’ll be fine. He’s great stock and he’ll be alright.

“With Ian, we’ll appeal it because it’s very harmless from what I’ve heard. It is seemingly very harmless,” he said.

“He’s captain of our team. He’s probably been the leading light in Galway underage hurling coming through for the last number of years and he’s a great leader and a great captain.”

SCORERS - Galway: S McDonagh 0-12 (9f), A Connaire, T Killeen 0-2 each, C Cunningham, G Thomas, G Lee, P Cummins 0-1 each.

Wexford: AJ Redmond 0-5 (5f), D Cantwell 0-2, L Kavanagh, J Shiel, R Lawlor, C Byrne 0-1 each.
