Shane Walsh blitzed Roscommon as Galway secured the FBD Insurance Connacht GAA Senior Football League title at Dr Hyde Park.
The Kilkerrin-Clonberne forward shot 1-8 in his second game since being handed captaincy while Padraic Joyce earned his first piece of silverware as senior manager.
“In fairness to the lads they showed great effort and great heart, and the pleasing side for us is they kept the gap there,” said Joyce.
Galway were 0-7 to 0-5 ahead at half-time while Walsh dispatched a penalty to the Roscommon net on the resumption, and even though Eamonn Brannigan was sent-off Galway held on.
