Galston man banned from roads after driving at more than three times the limit

A Galston man who drove while more than three times the limit and ignored police who tried to pull him over has been banned from the roads.

Craig Paton drove a motocross motorcycle through Galston on October 26 with 68 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.

He admitted the offence when he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week, where he also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and behaving in a threatening manner towards police.

Paton, of Gateside Road, also admitted driving without lights at night, failing to stop for uniformed police and mounting the pavement.

When police eventually stopped Paton and placed him under arrest he struggled with them while shouting and swearing and repeatedly struck the police vehicle with his head.

The 34-year-old received a community payback order with 100 hours of unpaid work and supervision for 12 months.

He was placed on a restriction of liberty order for 12 months and has to remain in his house between 8pm and 6am every day.

He was also fined £400 and disqualified from driving for 34 months.
