A stunning artwork of the Galloway Viking Hoard has gone on display near where it was found.
The presentation is the work of more than 200 embroiderers around Scotland, who submitted more than 300 squares to create the piece that can currently be found in Balmaghie Kirk.
Dumfries and District Embroiderers’ Guild and Galloway Embroiderers’ Guild hosted the annual regional day in Stirling, with embroiderers from across the country getting the chance to see the work for the first time.

The work was overseen by Margot McIntyre of Dumfries and District Embroiderers’ Guild and extra panels had to be added to cope with all the squares, such was the response from across Scotland.
The £2 million hoard was found on land at Balmaghie Kirk in 2014 and the excavation was overseen by council archaeologist Andy Nicholson.
Andy will be returning to the church on Friday, May 17 to talk about the find, which contained more than 100 items – including silver arm rings and ingots, a Carolingian silver vessel, broaches, a rare gold pin and a large decorated cross.
