Galloway Small Arms Club fires back into action as ranges reopen

Galloway Small Arms Club opened its ranges for the first time in 14 months on Saturday.

The club was forced to shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic and members were pleased to hear the sound of gunfire again.

It was decided to mark the event by going old school with black powder pistols – so with a lot of noise and plenty of smoke the ranges near Crocketford were declared open.

Chairman Andy Duffy of Dumfries said: “We have had to be patient over the past year but it’s great to be back target shooting again, albeit in a limited fashion due to social distancing rules.”

Although the ranges have been out of action, when permitted a number of improvements were undertaken by some club members.

It is hoped that with the easing of restrictions, members will be able to eventually take part in a full programme of events.
