Galloway Cricket Club bowled over by £27,000 grant from Holywood Trust

Galloway Cricket Club representatives have been knocked for six by a donation from Holywood Trust.

The award of £27,750 will go towards securing the future of the sport locally.

It has also funded a community cricket development officer to boost activity in Galloway.

Howard Bradley is already establishing connections and coaching sessions in primary schools.

Club member Phil McMenemy said: “Galloway Cricket Club is very grateful for the Holywood Trust’s support and encouragement.

“Cricket is a terrific team sport and we are grateful to them for recognising the many positive opportunities the game offers.”

Mr Bradley has already signed up 12 schools in Kirkcudbrightshire and five in Wigtownshire for coaching sessions. And he aims to launch secondary school sessions at Castle Douglas High and Kirkcudbright Academy this month.

Mr McMenemy added: “Howard will also ensure the continued growth of women’s cricket and introduction of disabled cricket. Most important will be the development of pathways to feed into and enhance Galloway Cricket Club – with a specific focus on schools and youngsters.”

Anyone interested in cricket can contact Mr Bradley on bradhowi@hotmail.co.uk or visit the GCC Facebook page or website www.gallowaycricketclub.co.uk.
