Galloway Cricket Club and Gatehouse Primary join forces for cricket week

Galloway Cricket Club and Gatehouse Primary joined forces to launch the club’s cricket week on Monday.

Youngsters headed to the Cally Cricket Ground for a morning of coaching sessions with development officer Patrick Druce.

He said: “Cricket week aims to encourage new people into cricket and with the school being so close to the club we thought it would be apt that they kicked it off.

“We invited them down and they brought the whole of the upper school – we had 37 kids down spread over two sessions and we coached them in batting, bowling and fielding. It was fantastic.”

Scotland’s over-40s were due to visit the club on Tuesday and there were also softball games and disability cricket sessions planned throughout the week.

And tomorrow night will see the club’s youngsters and Stewartry RFC’s juniors meet at the ground for cricket and rugby matches.
