Galloway boxer thanks supporters after winning Commonwealth Games bronze medals

Galloway boxer Tyler Jolly has thanked people for the support he received as he won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The 23-year-old, who secured a record knockout last week, was defeated by Ioan Croft of Wales on Saturday night.

Jolly was cut open by an accidental clash of heads before a late flurry of blows from the Welshman in the final round was enough to see him off in the NEC Hall.

Reflecting on his medal success Tyler said: “I’m pretty happy with that now the dust has settled a wee bit and I’ve started to realise it’s a good achievement.

“At the time I was a wee bit deflated because I wanted the gold medal but I’ll take a bronze this time.

“It was a massive thing representing your country.

“I’m a very proud Scottish person so it was a big honour putting the colours on.

“The reception everyone got was amazing.

“The support I get, especially from a wee village, Whithorn is just unbelievable and I can’t thank everyone enough.

“It’s not the medal I wanted to get on the podium but it was a special moment having my mum and that there.”
