ARLINGTON, Texas _ Joey Gallo belted a home run to snap a scoreless game in the sixth inning and the Texas Rangers' bullpen made it hold up for a 2-0 win Saturday night over the Los Angeles Angels.
Gallo's two-run homer to left-center field came with two outs after Todd Frazier had singled ahead of him.
Gallo has four homers in 12 games. Saturday's shot was estimated at 404 feet with an exit velocity of 100 mph, according to Statcast. Three of his homers this season have come in Arlington. All four homers have come against left-handed pitchers, including the Angels' Patrick Sandoval.
Gallo received an injection Friday for a sore right wrist that started bothering him earlier this week in Oakland, Calif.
"I felt like I had to manipulate my swing a little bit and it was kind of getting me off," Gallo said of the pain. "I felt a lot better (Saturday) and felt like I could get my normal swing off. Not to make excuses why I was struggling, but it did feel like I had to change my swing a little bit to kind of counterbalance the pain I was feeling in it."
With one out and a man on in the eighth, Joely Rodriguez rallied back from a 3-0 count to get Mike Trout looking at an inside fastball for the second out. Right-hander Ian Gibaut replaced Rodriguez to face Anthony Rendon, and Gibaut struck him out with a 96-mph fastball on the outside corner.
Starter Kolby Allard held the Angels to two hits and a walk through five innings before giving way to the bullpen. It's Allard's second-longest scoreless start. He went 6 1/3 in a start against the White Sox in Chicago on Aug. 24.
Allard struck out six. After David Fletcher started the game with a double to left field, Allard retired the next 10 batters. He walked Anthony Rendon with one out in the fourth and after striking out Shohei Ohtani for the second out, had two on after Albert Pujols singled to left. Allard forced Taylor Wad to fly out to center, however, to end the inning. Allard pitched a perfect fifth before Edinson Volquez took over in the sixth.
Volquez and Jesse Chavez each pitched scoreless innings before Rodriguez and Gibaut combined for a scoreless eighth.
Rafael Montero, fresh off his first-career save Friday night, pitched a perfect ninth for his second save in consecutive nights.
"What Kolby and our pitching staff did today was spectacular," Rangers manager Chris Woodward said. "Overall, an awesome job by our pitching staff and Joey with the big hit."
