Construction group Galliford Try has said it is positioned to emerge strongly from the pandemic, as it forecast a return to profitability in the first half.

Construction firms faced disruption from the first Covid-19 lockdown, with a number of sites shut and projects delayed so social distancing measures could be put in place.

Galliford Try today said all of its projects have been fully operational since the start of the financial year in July, with “productivity at near normal levels”. It is allowed to operate normally during the second national lockdown.

The firm, led by Bill Hocking, said it is performing well and in line with the board’s expectations.

It expects to return to profitability in the first half and resume dividend payments with the interim results.

Galliford Try added: “Our strategy and sector focus mean that the group is positioned to emerge strongly from the pandemic, supporting the Government's planned investment in infrastructure and economic recovery.”

Hocking said: “It is likely that the Government will invest in social and economic infrastructure to lead the country’s economic recovery. We are well placed to play our part in that recovery through our strong framework positions in sectors such as education, defence and health, as well as our expertise in highways and environment.”

Recent contract wins for Galliford Try include a £50 million office refurbishment project at 280 Bishopsgate, and more work with Highways England.

Earlier this year, before the coronavirus outbreak, Galliford Try completed a sale of its housing arms to Bovis Homes, now called Vistry.
