Gallagher Lennon training with St Mirren as club take closer look at Partick Thistle prospect

St Mirren are running the rule over Partick Thistle youngster Gallagher Lennon.

The 17-year-old, whose father is former Celtic star Neil Lennon, spent time with the Jags first team last season and has also been capped by Northern Ireland at under-17 level.

And speaking on Go Radio last night, Neil stated the teenager has begin working with Stephen Robinson's side - giving them a chance to thoroughly evaluate the young midfielder.

Lennon said: "He started training with St Mirren today (Monday). He's 17. St Mirren are going to have a good look at him over the next few weeks.

"He played for the [Northern Ireland] under-17s there in November and did really well, they bumped him up to the 19s and he was supposed to play in the Euros in March. But he broke his collarbone the week before, so he missed out on that.

"He's sort of mixed his education with his football and he did well at school. But he wants to give the football a go."

Keanu Baccus, a target for Bolton, is meanwhile in Belfast preparing for St Mirren's first pre-season game of the season tomorrow night.

The Saints will take on Glentoran on Wednesday evening, with Baccus still training with the Paisley side despite reports suggesting a deal had already been struck with the English League One side.

Local media in Bolton have reported that the move has hit a snag due to "work permit issues", with an English Championship club also said to have joined the race for the talented Australia international's signature.
