Galaxy S23 gets a new Android rival and it's on sale for £200 less than Samsung

Need a new Android smartphone but don’t want to pay the price for a flagship Samsung Galaxy S23? One of its arch-rivals has launched a new handset packed with top-notch features and all for a fraction of the price.

It’s the Asus Zenfone 10, a smaller model in comparison to Samsung’s flagship S23 range but it’s not without some mighty upgrades making it a solid option for those who don’t want to spend big but want are still after a quality handset.

Announced to the tech scene at the end of June, the ASUS Zenfone 10 is now available to pre-order in the UK, and those who opt-in early will get to pay just £699, that's £50 cheaper than the standard £749.99 starting price.

If that's not enough to sway you towards the handset then the fact it's £200 less than the cheapest Galaxy S23 handset may be a selling point. Samsung's S23 range was released in February this year and whilst we back the handsets as being a 'top contender' on the market, alongside the iPhone 14 and Pixel 7 Pro, the price range isn't an option for all.

This is why the ASUS Zenfone is a popular choice for those on a tighter budget but still looking for quality Android features. So what can potential buyers expect to get for their money? Here's everything we know about its design, software and cameras.

Branded as a 'mighty' handset we'd say its integrated Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor packs a punch, and it's the same chip inside all of the Galaxy S23 devices. Design-wise, the handset is a lot smaller at 5.9 inches and unlike rival models, it only comes in one size.

Despite being mini it still gets dual rear snappers, one ultra-wide plus the main camera which is fitted with a Gimbal Stabiliser 2.0 - saving users from having to buy the Gimbal tripod to get smooth transitions for filming.

Other features include a 144Hz screen for speedy scrolling, powerful speakers, fast charging and it's cover in Gorilla Glass for added protection.

If you're eager to see how this new device performs off paper then you can head over to The Irish Mirror's review where Editor Mark Kavanagh put it to the test.

He said: "I’ve been testing the Zenfone 10 for several weeks and it’s one of my favourite smartphones of 2023 so far.

"The standout features include the blazing fast chip, super smooth AMOLED display, great photos and videos, excellent battery life, top-notch speakers, ace software and wireless charging.

"It can match the skills and speed of the year's best Android smartphones such as OnePlus 11 and S23 Ultra and is an enjoyable and fun phone to use."
