Galaxy's Gyasi Zardes, Omar Gonzalez called up by U.S. national team

April 13--The Galaxy's Gyasi Zardes and Omar Gonzalez were selected Sunday to the U.S. national team roster for Wednesday's friendly against Mexico in San Antonio.

For Zardes, a forward, the call-up is his second this year. Gonzalez, a defender, played for the U.S. in last summer's World Cup in Brazil.

The 22-man roster includes 11 other players from Major League Soccer as well as five players from Mexico's Liga MX. Not called up were captain Clint Dempsey of the Seattle Sounders, who also missed Sunday's game against the Galaxy because of a hamstring strain, and fellow forward Jozy Altidore, who is suspended after receiving a red card in the last U.S. friendly, a 3-2 loss to Denmark.

World Cup veteran DeAndre Yedlin, who recently joined Tottenham of the English Premier League, has been released from his club to join the U.S. for the game. Julian Green of Germany's Hamburg is one of eight players on the roster with World Cup experience.

The U.S. has not lost to Mexico since Juergen Klinsmann took over as coach in the summer of 2011, going 2-0-3.
